About Sunday Streets Bayview/Dogpatch

This will be our 5th year Sunday Streets visits the Bayview and Dogpatch neighborhoods. With over three and a half miles of car-free space, this is one of the longest Sunday Streets routes and a great opportunity to explore San Francisco neighborhoods by bike. In 2014, we’re pleased to partner with the Stern Grove Festival Association for a special live music event anchoring the northern end of the Sunday Streets route at China Basin. Sunday Streets in the Bayview and Dogpatch connects AT&T Park, the Dogpatch, and Bayview via Terry Francois Blvd, Mariposa St, Indiana St, and Third St. For the first time, Sunday Streets will take place on the southbound lanes of Third St between 22nd St and Quesada Ave. Read below for suggested detours. Because this route is so long, we encourage you to bring your bike or skates. If you don’t have wheels, be sure to put on those walking shoes!

Activities and more

There are many amazing organizations and small businesses on and near this route (You can see the full activity list here). This year, kick off your day at Sunday Streets by stopping to dance to some live music at China Basin. That’s right, Grove on the Road will be out with performances by The Family Crest and ODC Dance Other activities in the Stern Grove area include an instrument petting zoo with Magik*Magik Orchestra, Artist Talk with ODC Dance, and Visual arts programming with Trash Mash-Up.

Make your way down to the Bayview end of the route where you will find walking tours, live music, delicious restaurants, as well as dance or yoga lessons! Download our Scavenger Hunt or BINGO card, and explore the route while playing. Complete the scavenger hunt or a line on the bingo card and, you can be entered to win a Sunday Streets related prize. Bonus: if you bring your completed cards to Triple Voodoo Brewery and Taproom, your first drink is on the house!

Hunters Point Shipyard Artists will be hosting Spring Open Studios nearby, so be sure to check that out! Their event will include participating artists from 7 buildings, food by the Bayview Underground Food Scene PopUp Market , local vendors, live jazz, a youth art show and a participatory art zone for kids. How to participate

Volunteer Each Sunday Streets is made possible with the support and dedication of dozens of volunteers. From event prep and neighborhood outreach to staffing the event, there’s something for everyone.

Host an Activity! All activities that take place at Sunday Streets are offered at no cost to participants, and are led by community organizations, local merchant or neighborhood groups, individuals and Sunday Streets partners who graciously donate their time to make each event so special. Getting there

The Bayview and Dogpatch Sunday Streets route is served by MUNI and accessible by Caltrain. Parking near the route is not guaranteed, and we strongly encourage biking, walking, or taking public transportation to get to Sunday Streets when possible.

MUNI:  For trip planning and other Muni-related info, go to www.sfmta.com. Bikes are allowed on front racks of buses. The Bayview and Dogpatch neighborhoods are served by the following MUNI lines:

• T 3rd Street Line (Light Rail) to 4th St and King St, or to 3rd St stops between 22nd St and Quesada Ave
• #19 Polk to 3rd St and Evans Ave
• #22 Fillmore to 3rd St and 20th Ave
• #23 Monterey to 3rd St and Palou Ave
• #24 Divisadero to 3rd St and Palou Ave
• #29 Sunset to 3rd St and Gilman, transfer to T
• #44 O’Shaughnessy to 3rd St and Palou Ave, or transfer to T
• #48 Quintara to 20th St and 3rd St
• #54 Felton to 3rd St stops between Palou and Hudson

BART: Coming from the East Bay? Take BART to the Embarcadero station and transfer to Muni. Take an Inbound Muni T line to 4th and King (walk 1 block to 3rd, the northern end of the route). For trip planning, go to www.bart.gov.

CALTRAIN: Coming from the South Bay? Take Caltrain to the station at 22nd St Station or to the Caltrain Depot at 4th and King Street. The Sunday Streets route is just a couple of blocks away from both stations. BIKE: Get in the spirit for Sunday Streets by biking there! Go to:  www.sfbike.org to download a bike map to help find a flat, bike-friendly route from your area or the nearest transit stop to Sunday Streets. Got a long way to go? Shorten the trip by taking transit part of the way. Muni buses have bike racks for 2 bikes, BART and Caltrain both allow bikes on board.

By Car: Should you chose to drive, be aware that the Sunday Streets route is towed of all vehicles beginning at 7am (even if you’re just stopping for a moment for a cup of coffee). Check out SFPark.org and parkme.com to identify available parking lots and spaces nearby. Additionally, parking may be available at these locations near the route:

• AT&T Park – Lot A at 1101 3rd St

Detour and Parking Changes

The Sunday Streets route is towed of all vehicles beginning at 7am. No stopping/parking is allowed on the route between 7am and 4pm (even if you’re just stopping for a quick cup of coffee, your car may be towed). Streets begin closing to vehicle traffic starting at 10:30am, and will remain closed to vehicle traffic until 4pm.

Recommended detours:

• Use Mission Bay Blvd North and South at Terry Francois Blvd to access Pier 52
• Southbound traffic rerouted from Third St between 20th St and Revere Ave:
  • use Illinois St, cross the route at Cargo Way, and continue on Quint St, Evans Ave, Phelps St, Palou Ave, Newhall St, and Revere Ave back to Third St.
  • or from Cargo Way, use Mendell St, to Newcomb Ave, to Lane St, to Quesada Ave.
