On Sunday, May 21, 2023, from 12 – 5 PM, Sunday Streets SF will host the Bayview Community Block Party, creating 5 blocks of car-free fun and recreation on Galvez Ave and Mendell St.

About The Route

Sunday Streets SF works closely with diverse Bayview stakeholders to create the program every year. Sunday Streets SF is presenting the new Community Block Party format in Bayview for 2023 based on community requests for a more focused route and to create space to to talk about what Sunday Streets SF should look like in Bayview in the years to come. Activity Highlights

Celebrate Bayview with free recreational activities hosted by SF Recreation and Parks and Street Soccer USA, STEM learning experiences by Mission Science Workshop and Exploratorium, a live music stage sponsored by Bayview Hunters Point YMCA, and catch health and wellness resources like free flu vaccines and COVID boosters from SF Dept. of Public Health and free dental checkups by UCSF.

Getting There

Livable City strongly encourages biking, walking, or taking public transportation to get to Sunday Streets.

MUNI:  For trip planning and other Muni-related info, go to sfmta.com. Visit sfmta.com/alerts the week before the event for updated information on any MUNI lines that will be rerouted during the event. Bikes are allowed on the front racks of buses. The Bayview Sunday Streets route is served by the following MUNI lines:

  • T Line to 3rd St and Evans Ave.
  • 15  – Bayview Hunters Point Express to 3rd St and Evans Ave.
  • 19 – Polk to Evans Ave & 3rd St.
  • 44 – O’Shaughnessy to Evans Ave & 3rd St.
  • 54 – Felton to Newhall St and 3rd St.

BART: Coming from the East Bay? Take BART to Embarcadero and transfer to Muni: T Line. For trip planning, visit bart.gov. For more information about bikes on BART, visit bart.gov/bikes.

By Car: Please note parking options may be limited in the vicinity of Sunday Streets events, and no stopping or parking will be allowed on the event footprint. Towing will begin at 6 am, and no vehicles are allowed to drive onto the route after 10 AM unless for local access and guided by a Sunday Streets staff or volunteer. Check out Drive & Park to identify available parking lots and spaces nearby.

STREET CLOSURES & PARKING CHANGES

On Sunday, May 21, 2023, no vehicles will be allowed on the following streets between 8 AM and 8 PM, and may be towed starting at 6 AM:

  • Galvez Ave between Phelps St and 3rd St
  • Galvez Ave between 3rd St and Mendell St
  • Mendell St between Hudson Ave and Fairfax Ave

VEHICLE ACCESS FOR RESIDENTS, BUSINESSES & CHURCHES

If you need to exit/enter with a vehicle during the event, please contact staff in advance at sundaystreets@livablecity.org if possible. Otherwise, wave down staff or volunteer in Sunday Streets t-shirts or call 415-344-0489 on event-day to get an escort who will guide you and help keep kids and other attendees safe.

Vehicles can cross the Sunday Streets route at:

    • 3rd St (no turning on Galvez Ave)
    • BUS ONLY Evans Ave at 3rd St
