About Sunday Streets Bayview/Dogpatch

This will be Sunday Streets sixth year visiting the Bayview and Dogpatch neighborhoods. With over three and a half miles of car-free space, this is one of the longest Sunday Streets routes and a great opportunity to explore San Francisco neighborhoods by bike. For the first time, Sunday Streets will take place on the southbound lanes of Third St between Mariposa and Yosemite Ave. Read below for suggested detours. Because this route is so long, we encourage you to bring your bike or skates. If you don’t have wheels, be sure to put on those walking shoes!

Activities and more

The Bayview YMCA will be hosting their Healthy Kid’s Day during Sunday Street, so make sure to bring the little ones to Newcomb for some healthy fun! The SF Bicycle Coalition and YBike will be teaching kids how to ride, Salvation Army will offer games and activities, and Bayview Cyclery will host free bike inspections, and karaoke! Dogpatch Barber and Shave will offer free trims in the street, and numerous businesses on 22nd Street will have deals you won’t want to miss.

How to participate

Volunteer Each Sunday Streets is made possible with the support and dedication of dozens of volunteers. From event prep and neighborhood outreach to staffing the event, there’s something for everyone. Click the links below to sign up for any of these opportunities.

• Sunday Streets in the Bayview/Dogpatch: Sunday, April 12, various 2.5-hour shifts between 9:30 a.m. & 5 p.m.
• Neighborhood Outreach: Saturday, March 14 & 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Volunteer Orientation: Monday, April 6 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• Sign Posting: Wednesday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. & 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
• Monthly Volunteer Movie Night: Wednesday, March 25 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Host an Activity! All activities that take place at Sunday Streets are offered at no cost to participants, and are led by community organizations, local merchant or neighborhood groups, individuals and Sunday Streets partners who graciously donate their time to make each event so special. Getting there

The Bayview and Dogpatch Sunday Streets route is served by MUNI and accessible by Caltrain. Parking near the route is not guaranteed, and we strongly encourage biking, walking, or taking public transportation to get to Sunday Streets when possible.

MUNI:  For trip planning and other Muni-related info, go to www.sfmta.com. Visit sfmta.com/alerts the week before the event for updated information on any MUNI lines that will be rerouted during the event. Bikes are allowed on front racks of buses. The Bayview and Dogpatch neighborhoods are served by the following MUNI lines:

• T 3rd Street Line (Light Rail) to 4th St and King St, or to 3rd St stops between 22nd St and Quesada Ave
• #19 Polk to 3rd St and Evans Ave
• #22 Fillmore to 3rd St and 20th Ave
• #23 Monterey to 3rd St and Palou Ave
• #24 Divisadero to 3rd St and Palou Ave
• #29 Sunset to 3rd St and Gilman, transfer to T
• #44 O’Shaughnessy to 3rd St and Palou Ave, or transfer to T
• #48 Quintara to 20th St and 3rd St
• #54 Felton to 3rd St stops between Palou and Hudson

BART: Coming from the East Bay? Take BART to the Embarcadero station and transfer to Muni. Take an Inbound Muni T line to 4th and King (walk 1 block to 3rd, the northern end of the route). For trip planning, go to www.bart.gov.

CALTRAIN: Coming from the South Bay? Take Caltrain to the station at 22nd St Station or to the Caltrain Depot at 4th and King Street. The Sunday Streets route is just a couple of blocks away from both stations. Get the schedule at http://www.caltrain.com/ and information about bikes on Caltrain at www.caltrain.com/riderinfo/Bicycles.html.

BIKE: Get in the spirit for Sunday Streets by biking there! Go to:  www.sfbike.org to download a bike map to help find a flat, bike-friendly route from your area or the nearest transit stop to Sunday Streets. Got a long way to go? Shorten the trip by taking transit part of the way. Muni buses have bike racks for 2 bikes, BART and Caltrain both allow bikes on board.

By Car: Should you chose to drive, be aware that the Sunday Streets route is towed of all vehicles beginning at 8am (even if you’re just stopping for a moment for a cup of coffee). Check out SFPark.org and parkme.com to identify available parking lots and spaces nearby.

Detour and Parking Changes

The Sunday Streets route is towed of all vehicles beginning at 8am. Including the following streets:

• 3rd St between 18th St and Yosemite Ave, west side of the street (southbound) only
• 22nd St between Indiana St and 3rd St, both sides of the street
• Galvez Ave between Phelps St and 3rd St, both sides of the streets
• Newcomb Ave between Newhall St and 3rd St, both sides of the street
• Quesada Ave, first two spaces west of 3rd St, both sides of the street
• Bayview/Revere Ave, first two spaces west of 3rd St, both sides of the street
• Lane St between 3rd St and Yosemite Ave, both sides of the street

No stopping/parking is allowed on these streets between 8am and 4pm (even if you’re just stopping for a quick cup of coffee, your car may be towed). Streets begin closing to vehicle traffic starting at 10:30am, and will remain closed to vehicle traffic until 4pm.

Recommended detours:

• Southbound traffic rerouted from Third St between Mariposa At and Yosemite Ave:
  • use Illinois St, cross the route at Cargo Way, and continue on Quint St, Evans Ave, Phelps St, Palou Ave, Newhall St
  • or from Cargo Way, use Mendell St, to Newcomb Ave, to Lane St.
