Sunday Streets Tenderloin Recap

On June 15, the Sunday Streets Tenderloin block party welcomed hundreds of families to take their place on the car-free streets, enjoy live music, joining playground games, and exploring fun free activities for all. State Senator Scott Wiener, Supervisor Mahmood, and other community leaders joined in honor of the day and celebrated what makes this neighborhood special.

Thank you to Kron 4 News for your coverage: ‘Sunday Streets’ event brings families to SF’s Tenderloin for community fun with a quote from our Executive Director Darin Ow-Wing:

“There’s this moment of collective joy among people, among family and people they haven’t met, but they’re all from the neighborhood. So that to me is symbolic to what this is about.”

“All the bad news in the world, all the things we’re stressed out about, if we’re not united, it’s going to be a lot harder to get through these things,” Ow-Wing said.

Sunday Streets Tenderloin is a part of a larger neighborhood celebration made possible by a network of incredible partner organizations that serve the community with pride year-round:

Special shout out to Combat Krav Maga SF. Sensei Joel Brown and his team lead self-defense seminars and have offered hands-on martial arts activities to Sunday Streets goers for years. This year, they’ve prepared a thrilling activity – breaking a board with your bare hands!
